The team behind Ølkassen loves mead. In fact, so fond of mead that we have gathered the best mead producers from the states and Europe. Melomel: Mead with fruit added and in particular berries. Often seen with black currants, cherries, raspberries, cranberries, blackberries, boysenberries, honeyberries and strawberries.
Pyment: This type of mead is actually a sub-category to the “melomel” type of mead, where honey is mixed with grapes or grape juice and when fermented together. Either white or red grapes can be used.
Cyser: This type is made from a mixed base of honey and apple cider or juice.
Metheglin: In metheglin mead is used various spices such as vanilla, nutmeg or cinnamon.
Acerglyn / Maple Wine: This mead differs from the other mead types by being made 100% from fermented maple syrup instead of honey. Often also made with added ingredients such as fruits or spices.
Braggot: Made with honey and malted cereal and is thereby a kind of fusion between mead and beer.
Traditional: As the name states, this is traditional mead which is fermented honey without any further additions or fusion with other types of beverages.
Other: We have here gathered the more special and experimenting types, for example with chili or exotic fruits as pineapple.
